Inspired by the stories of the Bible, and perhaps hoping
to bring a little bit of that culture to those who would
never be able to travel to see the authentic surroundings,
the Holy Land Experience brings a day of discovery and history
to Florida.
The Holy Land Experience recreates stories from
both the Old and the New Testament, such as the Tabernacle,
built as a place for God to inhabit while the Israelites
wandered in the desert.
The main premise of the Experience
is the New Testament, showing events from the life of Jesus
(and also some exhibits connected to his later-day followers,
such as monks). |

The Holy Land Experience uses a combination
of film, staged theatre, and musicals to tell the story
of the Bible lands.
One of the most spectacular sights is a model of Jerusalem
as it would have looked in AD 66, at the period when Jesus
walked on Earth. Jerusalem AD 66 is the world’s largest
model, over 40 feet by 25 foot long, and the staff of the
Holy Land Experience hold daily presentations to tell the
story of the beginnings of the city in prehistoric times,
right up to its destruction in AD 70.

The Visitor can see
where Christ would have walked and preached after his entry
into the city, and where he would have walked as he suffered
his Passion.
As well as the Holy Land Experience exhibits, the centre
also holds a museum called the Scriptorium, a library which
holds thousands of scrolls, manuscripts and other items
as part of the Van Kampen Collection; this is augmented
by later biblical works.
There is a walk-through exhibition
which displays certain biblical documents in their historical
and religious context, which focuses upon the bible’s
impact upon the world. |
