The
pure artesian water has attracted human settlements to Silver
Springs for centuries. Indian tribes fought off Spaniard
invaders and it was only after the formation of the US Government
that the successors of these tribes retreated. The glass-bottomed
boats are named after Indian leaders to this day.

Moviemakers
discovered the natural beauty of Silver Springs in the early
1900s and six Tarzan movies figure amongst a long list of
cinema shot at this locale. The Park is now a prime destination

350-acre Park has an array of rides and shows and a calendar

A Jeep Safari takes you in to the heart of an ancient forest
and the trip includes a ride through water with live alligators.
Incidentally, the Park is also home to the largest croc
known to be under the care of man: a 2000-pound monster
called Sobek, after the Egyptian God with a crocodile head.
Silver Springs boasts of one of the best collections of
bears in the US, with Brown, Asiatic Black, Spectacled and
North American Black species, all in natural conditions.
You can also see and photograph the endangered Florida Panther
and the Western Cougar. There are some gentler inhabitants
as well and children can pet and feed a variety of goats
and deer. There is a Botanical Garden with over 138 species
of plants presented in flowerbeds and floral sculpture.
Birds of prey, parrots, macaws and toucans feature in shows
on the winged creatures.
Three
new shows have been added recently. The Lighthouse Ride
carries 50 people at a time 80 feet in to the air for a
spectacular view of the Park. The Fort King River Cruise
takes visitors back through the history of Silver Springs,
starting from archeological times to an overview of the

The Fantastic Fountains Water Show presents a series of
fountains and water patterns set to lighting and music in
a memorable spectacle.

Park has regular educational programs, focused on animal
