Walt Disney World is one of the largest resorts in the
world, and is famous for its theme parks.
In fact, most
people only consider Walt Disney World as its parks, and
do not consider that it also has a golf course, a race track,
a sports complex and many, many shopping and entertainment
facilities, as well as four massive theme parks.
Built just
a year after Walt Disney’s death, the resort has 47
square miles of property, all operating under the Walt Disney
World logo.

It is generally supposed that the resort is
in Orlando, theme park of the world; in fact, the whole
complex belongs in Orange County, just over the border. The resort was conceived by Walt Disney himself as a larger
Disneyland.

There was to be several hotels, as well as an
industrial park and ‘EPCOT’, the progressive
city of tomorrow that eventually became the second theme
park of the resort.
Walt Disney World paved the way for
many of the other resorts in the Florida area, including
the Universal Studio resort not too far away in Orlando.
The resort has grown massively since it first started out,
employing over 50,000 more staff than originally, which
gives an example of how much bigger it has become. |
Walt’s Disneyworld has had to have a special fleet
of buses called Disney Transport, that help people to move
around the resort, as well as a monorail which links the
theme parks and the TTC (Transportation and Ticket Centre);
the monorail is one of the best known monorail systems in
North America. The resort has all sorts of parks, making
it attractive to all ages, and its nightlife and shopping
attract even those who do not want to visit the cartoon
empire.
